Asus's pint-sized $499 EeePC notebook is now available in chic cafe black and in more stores than its exclusive launch partner Myer. The Lilliputian laptop with the 18cm screen, wireless networking, USB and a flash memory hard drive is now starring at David Jones, Harvey Norman and Officeworks, among others.

It's also the best-selling laptop at www.amazon.com. In fact, the EeePC appears three times in the online store's top 10 laptop list, due to Asus offering slightly different versions of the same base model.

Meanwhile, fans of the EeePC have been diving under its plastic hood and sharing their experiences at the eeeuser.com website, where the public discussion forums (forum.eeeuser.com) are a treasure trove of detail on personalising the EeePC. The geekiest Eeenthusiasts have revealed how to tweak the Linux-powered notebook to run Windows XP and even (although this is illegal) Apple's Mac OS X.
